One of my many weaknesses in this world is eye-wear. I'll admit it. I'm like a kid in a candy store when it comes to shopping for glasses - and more specifically - sunglasses. My go-to is usually Tim Ford for their iconic and classic shapes. I've had my eye on a few pairs of Maui Jim for quite some time now, too. Great price points and incredibly unique styles. Buuuuuut, once in a while, I find myself clicking around in the full on luxury category with a brand like Givenchy.. Which brings us here. I tend to go for a more square shape for my face, but thought it was time to try our a more round style. As I was clicking through the photos of these bad boys (photographed above) I thought it was exactly what I needed. Then I started noticing the details. These aren't your typical shades - no sir. The gold detailing on the top is so perfectly placed. Hidden, almost, until you tilt you head down to a pretty flashy reveal. That's what drew me to this style. On first look they are practical, sleek, and well made. But on further evaluation they have a completely different feel. I love a well designed, well thought out piece of any kind - but these shades might take the cake.

If any of you follow my posts at MTV Fora you may have seen my post looking for the perfect bomber jacket. I held off until I truly found the perfect one... and I think I just did. When I saw this one I knew it was right. Just big enough, the right shape on the back, I loved it. We've luckily been having a mild fall here (which I'm loving) but it's about time I pull this bad boy out. And while I've got you... I've never been one to accessorize much, but ever since I got these rings they barely leave my fingers. I bought a wholesale lot of 30 rings in various sizes, so I have at least one for each finger. Cost efficient way to achieve the multi finger ring look. You know me, always thrifty!

PULLTEETH LOVES JEREMY SCOTT

It's no secret that I've been a long time fan of Jeremy Scott. (Just check the tag) I've been talking about doing this video for years, specifically with my two good friends Freya and Chelsea. Collectively we have a shocking amount of his clothes in our possession, so it made perfect sense for us to work together on this. I was approached by the lovely folks at Synonym Art Consultation to create a piece to be looped at a Nuit Blanche party here in Winnipeg, and I figured it was the perfect opportunity to create the video!

So here's to you Jeremy! We love you!

Pullteeth

So... this happened. People always ask me the reasoning behind the name Pullteeth or why I started it and I wish I had a better story for them. It started as such a random thing with very little thought put into any aspect of it. Who cared, though? It was just for fun. As my years of blogging went on and my blog grew, it became something that identified me in such a strong way. Looking at it now, years and years later, Pullteeth is so near and dear to my heart. This weird, unexplainable blog with no purpose or goals became one of the biggest parts of my life. It's the reason I explored myself and my passions and shared them with the world. It's the reason I've met some of my closest and most valued friends. I's opened so many doors and created a universe of opportunity for me. This stupid, strange little style blog.

Here we are now. 2013. Parts of me think the era of blogging has completely died, unless you've managed to completely turn your blog into a money making machine. (and if that's you, kudos!) It was never about that for me, though. I am very grateful & lucky to have had some incredible people, brands, and companies support me over the years. The fact that anyone has ever thought I was cool enough to represent their company is still beyond me.

Anyways, this is starting to sound like a goodbye post... which it surely is not. I'm very interested in seeing what the future holds for myself, as well as for Pullteeth. It's something that will live with me forever. (not only because it is now permanently stuck on my wrist) Thanks to everyone who has encouraged me throughout this journey. The fact that I've been able to connect with people around the world who understand me is completely insane. I hope you'll be patient and stuck around to see what's next for me.

Ah, the thrills of having short hair. Completely buzzed one week, blue the next. There was a minute there where I was starting to feel like I blended into the crowd too much, so naturally I bleached it all and coloured it blue. People warned me before shaving my head that I wouldn't be able to do much with it. I'd like to think I'm proving them wrong. And for the shirt.. I don't even know what to say. Raf has always been that designer for me that I dreamt about wearing but never thought I actually would. My collection is slowly starting to grow and I'm truly starting to appreciate owning beautifully designed, well made designer pieces. This guy was a gift from my parents for my 23rd birthday, and suuuuuch a happy addition to my closet. Gotta love the folks!

Staying true to the statement from my last post, here is another comically oversized piece I've purchased lately. My Jeremy Scott collection is ever growing, thanks in part to his ongoing collaboration with Adidas. His price points for mainline pieces aren't too too bad, but being able to grab a sale item or two from the Adidas line is pretty nice. While I have your attention, why don't we take a look at a few pieces I'm eyeing from his latest collection with Adidas. He's at it again!

I've been a huge fan of his work for a while but haven't been lucky enough to wear/own a piece of his until now. PS: Can we please talk about these XXL light denim shorts I just thrifted? My recent philosophy for shorts (and all clothes in general) is the bigger the better. I mean it. Like, ridiculously huge, made for someone twice my size. If you need me I'll be scavenging the maternity/plus size section of the local thrift store.

Pulling Teeth: The Long Lost Daniel Palillo Interview

One of my all time favorite designers, Daniel Palillo, was nice enough to answer some of my silly interview questions earlier this year. I'm so excited to finally share the long lost 'Pulling Teeth' interview alongside images of his incredible Autumn Winter 2013 'Wasted Youth' collection. Enjoy!

 

How are you Daniel, A/S/L? I am good. Busy. Broke my finger yesterday. I think I have broken four of my fingers in my life. My record is that I broke the same finger for three times. I play soccer and I am goalie. So now its gonna be a small holiday. 32 / SIR / HELSINKI FINLAND Tell us a bit about yourself/your work. Taking it easy. Taking my work easy. Trying to not stress about it too much and living day by day. There always seems to be a sense of humor to your work, is that something that is important to you? Yes humor is very important for me, and definitely in something like fashion. You should not take it too seriously.

What are you listening to? Favorite song of the moment? Ugly Kid Joe - Everything About You. Check how cool they are. This might be asking you to pick your favorite child, but do you have a favorite collection of yours? Its always the latest one at the moment. It reflects what I am into and what I am doing at the given moment. Favorite junk food? Vegetarian burger. Cartoons have shown up in your work before. Favorite cartoon character? The comic book guy from the Simpsons. Stand out moment in your career? I love seeing my stuff at the streets. It is always a very special thing for me to see someone wearing my clothes.

What does 2013 hold for Daniel Palillo?
A lots of things but I can't yet talk about them . But we just did a collaboration with Underground Shoes. I am really happy how those turned out.

New Beginnings

The last few weeks have been quite crazy for me. I moved out into my first apartment which is exciting, scary, incredible, time consuming, and thrilling, all at the same time. The internet wasn't installed for the first two weeks, so I basically didn't know what to do with myself. I kept having people ask "does it feel like home yet?" and it truly didn't until now, sitting in my bed (aka my home office) being able to blog at my own will. It may sound sad, but so much of what I do revolves around the internet.

At any rate... I am settling in, loving being on my own. It's interesting how your perspective changes. I barely even think about clothes anymore, let go alone shopping for them. I've made a complete shift into everything interior. The first section I check when I go thrifting is the housewares, which was a section I normally avoided at all costs. It's so much fun walking into a place with blank white walls and being able to create a space that truly feels your own. It's a slow process, but I'd rather wait to find the pieces that are truly special instead of just buying for the sake of buying.

It truly feels like a new beginning for me. I'm excited to share the process here on Pullteeth. Who knows? Maybe there will be some housewares or interior DIYs? If you have any suggestions for interior blogs, please share! Inspire me.

All this talk of interior, but I haven't completely forgot about clothes. I might scale back on my online shopping a bit, but when I saw this 40 OZ NYC hat I knew it needed to join my collection. I mean, I'm still an online shopping addict deep down inside. I don't think that'll ever change.

Black on black on black on black for spring, can't you tell I'm excited about this God awful weather we've been having? Snow fall. Today. April 17th. Snow. I've already packed up all my winter gear, I refuse to come to the terms with the fact that I'll probably still need them. Jean jackets and windbreakers from now on. Maybe if I dress like it's actually spring Mother Nature will catch up with me.

Every once in a while you come across a brand doing something so simple, yet so beautifully unique. That's exactly what happened when I stumbled upon Stone New York, a design collective with a crisp and clean aesthetic. The line is a range of only five pieces which perfectly compliment the preciseness of the designs. I'm infatuated with the idea of taking something as simple as a t-shirt and making it as lux as possible. Kudos, Stone, you've captured my attention.

Living a Lie

A day will come when I will truly learn my shoe size and stick to it. Until then, I will continue to pretend that I can squeeze into a 40 sandal, meaning I will spend my hard earned money on designer footwear that I won't ever be able to wear. Seriously, though. How could I not lie to myself about these iconic Christopher Kane orthopedic looking metallic beauties? Imagine them with white socks... dear lord. But, if you were wondering, a Christopher Kane 40 is a regular 40 and not magically the 42 I would need for them to fit. So I had to settle for a simple are of Adidas. (which are great too! don't get me wrong)

On that note, if anybody is a size 40 and wants to chat about buying these from me my email is on the bottom bar. Give me a shout ;) I'd love for them to go to a good home who would truly appreciate them!

Pulling Teeth: Petra Collins Interview

Next up in the Pulling Teeth interview series is artist & photographer Petra Collins. We chat about age, pizza, teen crushes, and her amazing body of work. Hey Petra, A/S/L? 20/Female/Toronto   Your age is obviously a buzz question for you. Do you think it plays a part in your work? Are you sick of talking about it? Yes of course it plays a part in my work, especially with subject matter. I'm not sick of talking about my age but I am sick of people being so surprised at the fact that young people have something to say and can be good at things. We.are.the.future.and.we.are.smarter.   I'm definitely sick of hearing things like: "You are so good....for your age" - Like what the hell does that even mean?

Favorite pizza topping? Lots of meat... There is a definite vintage quality to most of your work.. Are you influenced at all by current teen culture? Yes! I an 100 percent interested in current teen culture. There is so much going on in teen culture today. We're living in this crazy age of technology and I think teenagers of this generation face far more pressures then before. I think maybe the 'vintage' quality of my work is due to a sort of nostalgia and sadness I try to capture. Favorite teen heart throb? Past or present. Umm I can't recall any teen heart throb crushes ... but I can say I had crushes on like, all of my teachers. What is your proudest accomplishment of your career? I'm not sure, but I am most proud when girls tell me that my photos mean something to them - that is why I do my work - and that is my greatest accomplishment.  You're a staple in the Rookie team. What do you love about the publication? UGH SO MUCH! The message of the magazine, its so refreshing and heartwarming to be working for a publication that is a positive for young girls - there are no magazines like it. Favorite song at the moment? Everything Is Embarrassing - Sky Ferreira / Bad Girls - Blood Orange Tiger Beat or J-14? J-14 all the way   What does 2013 hold for Petra Collins? Any ~exciting projects~? Jersey - Vintage Fubu / Leather Pants - Thrifted / Snapback - Ham on Everything

Football shouldered shirts, jackets, and sweaters were one of my favorite trends from last season. A look that I definately loved, but wondered how I could translate it to my everyday wardrobe. It never occurred to me that perhaps an actual football inspired piece would be easy enough to find. On Value Village 50% off day I snagged this vintage Fubu Jersey and it is actually perfect - great fabric weight, wide sleeves, even the font is weirdly amazing. There is a definite Shaun Samson feel to it, which makes me love it even more. All for the price tage of $7. Can't beat that!

Do It Ourselves: Who's Joining Us?

Just a quick update on the Do It Ourselves DIY project. Izzy, Giuliano and I asked for submissions from DIY menswear bloggers to show off their proudest DIY moment. The feedback was actually pretty incredible. There were a ton of incredible entries, but we've selected our two participants for this time around: Pete of Skibinsky & Daniel of We Have No Style. Super excited to see what these guys bring to the table.

If you're not familiar with how the project works, each of the 5 included bloggers will create a DIY project complete with instructions. Instead of posting the outcome ourselves, we will send the completed piece to another member of the group to showcase it in an outfit post. Make sure to be following all five of our blogs, as the projects will start rolling out very shortly!

Alan Taylor F/W 2013

Alan Taylor Fall Winter 2013   

My stand out for this season is hands down Dublin's Alan Taylor. The elbow slit jackets, the allllllmost skirts, the perfectly cut trousers. Everything seems to be a touch "off" but in the most perfect way possible. I find menswear can get a little neglected -especially in the bigger design houses- so there is something so refreshing about finding new & exciting menswear talent. Mark my words: I am keeping my eyes on this guy, and you should too. Expect big things.

Pulling Teeth: Bobby Bowen Interview

Who are you? ASL? Bobby Bowen, Stylist/Creative Director, 24, Male, Toronto's where I'm reppin How did you get into styling/creative direction? I first got into styling when I was really young. I always would dress my friends in high school for dress down days. They'd say “I always knew what looked good” and had good style so they would come to me the night before and consult. But I got into it more when I was in college. I knew exactly what I wanted to do off the bat. I started assisting an amazing stylist by the name of Shea Hurley, who was working in the industry, that really trusted me as an assistant and let me work on some big shoots with her. She was getting so much work that she couldn’t do all 3 shoots in one day, so she would send me on the smaller jobs and let me style the models. She would give me full credit for the styling direction which helped me start my book. Tell us about your biggest triumph in your career… I would say my biggest triumph in my career so far was my 1st editorial in NY titled “Harlem's Finest” with some of my favorite designers to collaborate with; Hood By Air, Jeremy Scott and Sir New York. It was something I had always dreamed of since I was really young, to shoot in NY in the Hood of Harlem, Harlem 103 and Lexionton. That shoot really opened my eyes and I was inspired beyond levels, so I’d say that was my biggest accomplishment to date.

You seem to work a lot with Jeremy Scott. Any other go-to designers for your work? I work a lot with Jeremy Scott because it really defines myself. The cartoon characters, the whimsical fun crazy stuff, I grew up with a lot of it. It really takes me back to my childhood which I try to always incorporate in my creative shoots. Some other designers I go to for work would be Hood By Air, Ksubi, and Givenchy. (If I had the access to it in Toronto) I also like a lot of independent designers, their vision and designs are soo fresh and exciting. I like to give them an outlet to start in the fashion industry. What are you more interested in; Womenswear or Menswear? Menswear, although womenswear is a lot more fun!! You're currently based in Toronto. Any plans to change your location? "Toronto where I'm Reppin" But, I do see myself moving to NY in a few years. Make a move and really do some big shit out there. What does 2013 hold for Bobby Bowen? 2013 Is gonna be a lot of change, growing, and experiencing. Definitely some print work for the world to see, and some cool collaborations. B's up Bobby's on the rise! Main influencers? Jason Farrer (best stylist ever), Riccardo Tisci, Alliyah, Drake, my older brothers and sisters, and all the members of Wu-Tang Clan (sooo much style on those cats) Dream job?
