Pulling Teeth: The Long Lost Daniel Palillo Interview

One of my all time favorite designers, Daniel Palillo, was nice enough to answer some of my silly interview questions earlier this year. I'm so excited to finally share the long lost 'Pulling Teeth' interview alongside images of his incredible Autumn Winter 2013 'Wasted Youth' collection. Enjoy!

 

How are you Daniel, A/S/L? I am good. Busy. Broke my finger yesterday. I think I have broken four of my fingers in my life. My record is that I broke the same finger for three times. I play soccer and I am goalie. So now its gonna be a small holiday. 32 / SIR / HELSINKI FINLAND Tell us a bit about yourself/your work. Taking it easy. Taking my work easy. Trying to not stress about it too much and living day by day. There always seems to be a sense of humor to your work, is that something that is important to you? Yes humor is very important for me, and definitely in something like fashion. You should not take it too seriously.

What are you listening to? Favorite song of the moment? Ugly Kid Joe - Everything About You. Check how cool they are. This might be asking you to pick your favorite child, but do you have a favorite collection of yours? Its always the latest one at the moment. It reflects what I am into and what I am doing at the given moment. Favorite junk food? Vegetarian burger. Cartoons have shown up in your work before. Favorite cartoon character? The comic book guy from the Simpsons. Stand out moment in your career? I love seeing my stuff at the streets. It is always a very special thing for me to see someone wearing my clothes.

What does 2013 hold for Daniel Palillo?
A lots of things but I can't yet talk about them . But we just did a collaboration with Underground Shoes. I am really happy how those turned out.

Always love Daniel's collections. He uses the perfect mixture of craziness with practicality which is something I appreciate. Each season has a strong sportswear inspiration which is what I thrive for these days. Show me a stylist sweat pant and lets call it a day. There's also nothing wrong with a sweater that says it all. Vulgar enough to get your point across, but still appropriate for daily wear. Can't go wrong with that.

Finally!!!!

I've been dying for some nice nice weather for a chance to wear my new Daniel Palillo ying-yang bike shorts. Some of you might remember my post about Daniel. Since then my wardrobe has taken a serious turn in that direction. I keep finding myself in the XXXL section trying to replicate some of the silhouettes in his line. I'm just glad I could get my hands on these bike shorts. Summer... I'm ready!

Daniel Palillo A/W 2011

One look at Daniel Palillo's lookbook for his A/W 2011 collection called "Talking Heads" and I immediately saw myself in everything. With a little help from my friend Nick from Elixe and his photoshop skills, seeing myself in the collection is much easier! (and slightly creepier...)

I've been a fan of Daniel's since the Welcome Hunters days (RIP) and have been eying some of his pieces on Shop Fatal ever since. I love the idea of a line that doesn't have a specific customer or gender. I think the pieces are really interchangeable between men and women but still maintain a really cool, easy silhouette. Not an easy feat! Daniel does it again with the latest collection of unisex looks. I hate that I don't own anything from this or any of the other collections yet, but after trying a few looks on (ha!) I think it's obvious it's a good fit. Looks like it's about time I got myself something!
But in the meantime I think I should turn off my computer before these photos make my head explode. Too weird.
