Just Shoot Me

Sweater - Jeremy Scott
It's become a tradition of mine to wear a Jeremy piece on the day of his show. Today I'm wearing a knit sweater I found on eBay a few months ago. The one thing about this piece is that I need to be mindful about not wearing it around children, ha! It's actually strange owning pieces that you personally don't think twice about, but other people have trouble understanding. (hello Martin Margiela keyring necklace) Oh well, shock value has to be worth something, right?

This season we get more graphic, unapologetic pieces from Jeremy. There is a definite grunge feel with this collection with I'm feeling... Something I've been going for the last little bit with my personal style. A good baggy plaid short and combat boots, I'm so game. I've actually had dreams about thrifting a fur coat like the one he showed. I know it likely won't happen, but a boy can dream! Plus these zip knee pants and getting the DIY wheels turning in my head. Might have to try these out. Another great show from Jeremy!

Oh, Canada

With Toronto Fashion week fast approaching, I'm only realizing now that I neglected to post anything other than my outfits from last springs events. My duties were mainly to cover for MTV Fora (see part 1 & part 2) which gave me the great opportunity to check out literally every show I could fit into my schedule. Looking back now, I would prooobbabbly streamline the process a little bit. I never understand why people complained about being tired after fashion week ("it's all fuuuun!" I once thought) but after my last experience all I wanted was a hot bath and to lay starfish in my bed for 72 hours. Tiring stuff. But when the week was over and all was said and done, a few great designers stuck out in my mind.

That brings me to my next point. The Collections. Looks like this year some young designers are branching off and showing their collections pre fashion week. It just so happens that my two stand out favourites from last season, Chloe Comme Parris and Sid Neigum, are both showing at this off-site event. Now, I may be a bit sour because my travel plans don't quite coordinate with the Oct 16 & 17 schedule for The Collections, but my heart will be there in spirit!

If you are not in Toronto you should definitely take a look at these young, inspiring designers! If you arrrre in Toronto I strongly encourage you to get involved in the Collections. Although I can't make this show, I'll be watching these guys for seasons to come. I should also mention that I'll be lurking around Toronto from the 21st-24th so I'd love to hear about what is going on in the city for fashion week! I like beer and loud music so point me in that general direction.

Oh Here Go Hell Come

Daniel Palillo Fall/Winter 2012
Always love Daniel's collections. He uses the perfect mixture of craziness with practicality which is something I appreciate. Each season has a strong sportswear inspiration which is what I thrive for these days. Show me a stylist sweat pant and lets call it a day. There's also nothing wrong with a sweater that says it all. Vulgar enough to get your point across, but still appropriate for daily wear. Can't go wrong with that.

Concentrate

Clear your mind. Breath deeply. Look closely and carefully at this image.
You know have the overwhelming urge to line up for the Marni x H&M launch to buy me this combo.
You will do it without question. You will send said pieces in the mail to me, since we don't have an H&M here.
I may or may not pay you back.
Thank you. That is all.

In all seriousness, how incredible is the Marni x H&M collection?! I think it's the first H&M collaboration I have seen in years where real attention is paid to the menswear line. Any of the pieces could easily be in the mainline, with the same attention to detail and quality. I'm especially in love with the swim shorts + button down combo (get a better look over at The Dandy Project). Here's hoping my lucky stars align and I somehow get my hands on them. Time for H&M to open in Winnipeg!

Hey You! Listen to Me

Tis the season where the menswear fashion weeks wrap up, and every single blogger gives you their two cents about what we all just saw. Why does my opinion count over any one elses? Well I haven't decided that yet... but here's what I think. Now listen.
The Jil Sander show gave us some serious leather, and I mean serious seriously. Who doesn't love a patent leather long sleeve? This show single-handedly shot "all leather everything" to the top of my list of looks I want to create/DIY. Lord knows everyone and their grandmother is going to DIY the leather lunchbag from this show but it won't be me. I'll leave that one for someone else to butcher.

A DIY I might try is this metallic sweatshirt from the Neil Barrett show. Simple enough, but a great laying piece. Into it.

I know, I know. Nicola is ruining the Mugler name, blah blah blah. A step back from some of the ridiculous pieces in the show and I can honestly say I really like some of the silhouettes. Whatever. I don't have to justify myself to you, leave me alone!!

I've been super into kilts/skirts lately, and I was just waiiiiting for the Comme Des Garcons show, because I knew I could rely on the line for some skirts. Just knew it. Not feeling the Kristen Stewert hair, but I'll let that one pass.

When looking at a show like Walter Van Beirendonck, you really need to take the show at face value. It will usually be ridiculous, it will usually be unwearable, but you need to find the pieces that can/would work. The monochromatic looks were the strong point of the show, and the multicolored layering was pretty genius. I'm a fan.

I'm not going to pretend that the Raf Simons show was their best because, I mean... it wasn't. But daaaamn, I always love it. I can always point out about half of the line that I would kill to wear. The stand outs for me were the mesh-like sweaters layered over a white shirt & black tie. Simple but awesome.

Alright. Person at Ann Demeulemeester who is lurking my DIYs and passing them along, make yourself known. Okay, obviously I know there isn't anyone over at the Ann team reading my little ol' blog, but damn this is a coincidence. Those of you ~long time readers~ may remember my DIY from April 2010 where I made these exact jeans. Haven't worn them much lately but maybe it's time to whip them out again!

T-shirts over jackets? Shorts over pants? T-shirts over sweaters over dress shirts?! Cardigans over suit jackets? The Acne show was nearly too good to be true. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to layer! Now where does one find a thick t-shirt like that... Hmmmm....
EDIT
How did I nearly forget Juun.J?!!! Arguably my favorite line evvvver, I always look forward to this show. I think shoulders are the biggest trend to follow this season and Juun.J delivered simply the best in exaggerated. Love it.

Here, have some crap

The Uniter is a student run newspaper from the University of Winnipeg. It's a free newspaper with student written articles, but I usually pick it up for the Street Fashion section. They've featured a ton of good looking Winnipegers and great friends so it's always worth picking up, if only for the fashion. I was waiting patently for my turn, and guess what... I got it! Shot by local photographer Brittany Hildebrandt. Some of you loyal blog readers might remember her from forever ago when she did my grad photos or our field photoshoot. Great girl, great photographer! Check me out in ~print~! What a dream!

Excuse the crooked scanning, whoops! Not ashamed of my quote, though. I can't help it I'm a bietard.

In the newest issue they're featuring a dear friend Lana Belton on the cover. She's a Winnipeg blogger who has been studying overseas for what feels like forever. She's finally coming home next week and I think a cover of a local paper is quite the welcome home gift! Check out her blog Tjejsajten if you like pictures of pretty blond girls partying.

And for some menswear eye candy to leave with, I give you the latest from Acne. I mean, the overalls? The shoes? The pants? Unreal. Now I'll just wait for them to go on sale on the Acne webstore. Oy

Washion Feek

As those of you who follow me on Twitter (cough, cough) may already know, I've been a very good male blogger lately. I've kept up with the mens fashion week shows so far! I normally put it off forever and never look back but I'm finding it a lot easier to look at the few shows that happen daily rather than leaving it all until it's all done. I thought I would share a few highlights for me thus far.

Burberry

(Burberry.com)
And just when I thought I would have to get over studs, Burberry throws in an unexpected punch of silver. I guess this means I can grasp onto studs for a wee bit longer!

Juun.J

(the fashionisto)
Windbreakers over motorcycle jackets? Done. Juun.J never fails to be one of my favorite collections season after season. I'm not sure how I feel about the visors but I'll let that slide.

Alexis Mabille

(nymag.com)
Classic example of how hair and makeup can make or break a show. I'm not familiar with Alexis Mabille, but I quickly flipped through these photos and disregarded them because of the hair and makeup. After a second look, I realized how much of the collection I really loved. The sandals, the one pieces, the suits. Such a great collection. Too bad all the models looked like fairies.

Anyways, those were just a few of my favorites. The skirts at Givenchy too, but that goes without saying. And to finish it all off, why not share my new favorite bag? Picked it up at a thrift store yesterday and I'm in love!

Jumanji pants

Hey guys. Sorry I haven't posted in a while, it seems like I've been going non-stop for the last week. Thought I would share a quick DIY project I've been working on for a little while now. I've wanted a pair of jodhpurs for God knows how long but haven't really come across a pair I liked, so I thought I would try making my own. These were just a regular pair of cargo pants I picked up at a thrift store and I sewed them super super tight at the bottom all the way to the pocket. A quick, easy and cheap DIY and they came out just the way I wanted them. Take a look!!

Any time I put them on my mind immediately goes to Jumanji. Not sure why, probably the poacher. Still deciding how I want to wear them, any suggestions?

Also, I haven't really been keeping up with fashion week (I'm the worst!!) but the one show I'm DYING over is Juun J Fall 2010. Here's a few of my favorite looks.
