Pulling Teeth: Yung Skeeter Interview

Hi Skeet. A/S/L?
27/M/LOS ANGELES BB

Let's jump right in. Favorite songs of 2k13 so far?
Chief Keef - Hate Being Sober
Banks - Before I Ever Met You
Jessie Ware - If You're Never Gonna Move (Two Inch Punch Remix)
Shadow Child - 23

That's about right.

What's the best part about your job?
Seriously it's being able to meet cool people all over the world. You/Freya/Chelsea included ;). Most of my best friends have come as a result of traveling and playing music :D.

(Left Image via Young In Hollywood)

Who's your fav internet celeb?
Internet celeb?! Does that mean exclusively famous on the internet? Or fame birthed from the internet? I dunno I guess Molly Soda is my favorite "internet celeb." She is so sweet and talented. If I had a gajllion dollars I'd greenlight full production of "Tween Dreams" (see right)

Tell me about the transition from "Skeet Skeet" to "Yung Skeeter". Is it some sort of Benjamin Button thing? Are you getting younger?
Basically they couldn't say "Skeet Skeet" on the radio so all my songs couldn't be name checked lol. Figured it was probably time to take this music stuff a litttttle seriously and make some music that I gave a shit about so Yung Skeeter came from Rony calling me that and here we are. Basically... this

Best place you've been able to travel to? Worst?
Tokyo was 1000% the most life changing place I've ever been. If you're a creative person you need to go. Just have to. Worst place hmmm probably some shitty city in the southern US or Vegas lol

Are you down for the new Myspace? Is this really happening?
I dont know if I back the new one. It's great but not really for the same reasons the old one was great. I think the idea of the social network is gonna be parted out though. We can't all live in one space really and Facebook's already watering itself down.

You've also directed videos for other artists. Is that something you'll do more of?
I wish I could it's soooooo time consuming I really don't have time anymore. Will probably do some more of that in the future though.

Explain your fashion sense to us. Is your ~image~ important to you? Favorite item of clothing?
A lot of people know me as "Trevor the Fashion Guy who became a DJ" like when I was 19 I was doing a ton of graphic design work for little streetwear brands and random cut n sew brands and shit and the dream was to start my own line. I had all this vintage Dior and raw denim I had spent years collecting and then my whole wardrobe was stolen from my tour bus in 2008 so I kinda just didnt give a fuck after that haha. I had all these brands giving me free shit I just wore it and lived on airplanes and ate like shit and had a lot of good times. But in the last few years I've realized I basically dressed like a frat bro because I only wore free streetwear so I've stepped it up and made it a point to buy stuff that I love.

That said for me I primarily keep it simple. Great pair of black denim, APC petit standards, some khaki, an assortment of Vans, some drapey ass t-shirts and some simple great fitting dress shirts and then its just accessorize mane.

Favorite shit right now probably this Kenzo paisley jacket

You normally offer free downloads for your music. What are the positives to that?
I guess that's just the punk rock dude in me. I promised to never sell music and that was part of the skeet skeet thing, never really felt like I was capable of making anything people should have to buy. But I released the Yung Skeeter stuff properly because of cool platforms like Spotify where there is no barrier to entry.

Where can we follow you on the internet? Or IRL?

Rainy Day

Rain Coat - Thrifted / Button up - Vintage Levis / Hat - Dollar store / Necklace - Thrifted
Normal Song - Perfume Genius

What was meant to be a productive day took a vicious turn for the worst when I opened my blind this morning. Nothing calls for a stay-in-bed-and-only-watch-episodes-of-Girls kind of day like a pure gray sky. Once I eventually peeled my lazy ass out of bed (4 hours after waking up, I should add) I decided it was the perfect opportunity to wear this rain coat I thifted a few months back. Part raver, part garbage bag, part, dare I say it, practical. Worn with what I think is my new favorite button up and this incredible triple ring necklace. The necklace is truly one of those thrift finds you really wonder "Who owned this before and why the hell did they get rid of it?!"

For now I think I'll retire back into my bed. On your way out, you should prrrrobably head over to Refinery 29 and check out their post titled "6 Canadian Style Bloggers You Need To Know Now." I'll give you a hint why.. there may be a certain male style blogger you recognize. ;)

Festival Florals

Over the weekend I was visiting Montreal for Osheaga Music Festival. I always love going to weekend festivals out of town and the outfits that I get to plan around them. But I'm usually so busy I forget to document all of my outfits. Luckily, while in Montreal I got to meet one of my blogger BFFs Nick of The Elixe who thankfully brought his camera everywhere. Smart guy. Here's a few shots he got of our outfits on Saturday! (And yes.. we did plan match. SO SUE US)

Shirt - Vintage / Shorts - American Apparel
Song: Baths - ♥

The festival itself was incredible. I'd really recommend it to anyone looking to travel for a festival next summer. It's large enough that they get really great artists, but still small enough that you get to actually see the artists. Some highlights for me were Baths, Crystal Castles, Braids, RATATAT, Suuns, The Flaming Lips and Jamie XX, among many others. I'm back home in Winnipeg now so I'm sure my posts will start to pop up more frequently! Enjoy the rest of your week everyone :)

Things & Music

Shirt - Marc by Marc Jacobs / Hat - Vintage, DIY dyed
As I mentioned earlier, I wasn't expecting much shopping during my trip. In Miami, we ended up having a free afternoon and decided to head to an outlet mall. I had a bit of luck and snagged a few great Marc by Marc Jacobs pieces, including this shirt. Saks off 5th always seems to deliver whenever I get a chance to shop at one.

I really only had one shopping mission on this whole trip; find a new wallet. I've had this wallet for a few years now. I originally bought it at a church rummage sale for ten cents... It wasn't in the worst shape but after constant use it was getting worse and worse. So I had my work cut out for me for my one afternoon in Mexico. I needed to find a new wallet! This one cost me a biiit more than my other one (around $6 USD) but worth every penny. ;) I can't wait for it to wear out juust a bit, though.

Every once in a while I go through a bit of a lull music wise. I just get really sick of my music. For whatever reason, right now I'm really digging a lot of new music, and I'm also rediscovering a few of my old favorites. I thought I'd share 10 of my favorite songs of the moment. Give 'em a listen!

Theophilus London - Flying Overseas / James Blake - Unluck / Luluc - Black Umbrella / jj - Masterplan / Owen Pallett - Keep The Dog Quiet

Ellie Goulding - Lights (WIRED Remix) / Dels - Trumpalump / Sky Ferreira - American Dream / Bahamas - Hockey Teeth
/ Braids - Same Mum

Get Some

T-shirt courtesy of Blood Is The New Black

Just saw the most recent Lykke Li video and was amazed at how much it reminded me of my brand new Blood is the New Black t-shirt. I feel like everyone in the blog/tumblr world has been obsessed with the dark, witchy, illuminati image for a while now and it is some what of a guilty pleasure of mine. I can't help but love it! Blood is the New Black never shies away from this look, so if you love it as much as I do they have lots of great pieces in the catalog. But seriously... how amazing is this video?!!!

Also, I spent a good majority of my weekend online window shopping, what with all these incredible Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. So.. I jumped at the opportunity for a contest through a website called Discount Coder to put a complete outfit together on ASOS for £100 or under. Here's what I came up with!

All Saints Square Cardigan - £45 / ASOS Tooth Pendent Necklace - £3 / ASOS Suede Buckle Creepers - £25 / ASOS Tailored Jersey Shorts - £13 / ASOS BLACK Spiro Print Vest - £18
I know I'm a touch over budget, but I was factoring in the 20% off Asos brands coupon they have! :P
If you're planning on doing any online shopping for the holidays, make sure you check to see if there are any helpful coupons!

this is how we do it

This dude was crazy! He knew my blog, too!

I think it's about time I introduce you to some of the good looking people of my humble city. I've gotta start bringing my camera out more. Here's some photos from Friday night. Insane time. Finally, somewhere I can hear all the Nicki Minaj I want!

Coachella 2010

Festival Day One

Wearing Christopher Kane tank top, Urban Outfitters cut off shorts, vintage sunglasses, Dr Marten boots

Gumshoe! Watch out for this girl, she is going to be huuuuuge

Lindsay-fucking-Lohan is right behind me. My friend got kicked out of the party and nearly arrested for taking photos of her. Totally worth it.

sup Ali Lohan

Last Nights Party dude was kind of crazy but he featured me on his main page so that's cool I guess...

Festival Day Two

Wearing DIY studded vest, Brian Lichtenberg tank top, vintage floral shorts, Dr Marten boots

Recognize the sweater?

Festival Day Three

Rusko. I think I'm really into dub step. Is that bad?

Wearing Walmart triangle tank, Jeremy Scott x Ksubi jeans, Dr Marten boots

Here, have a video

I thought I would do a quick run through of some of the acts I saw during the festival. The downside of such an amazing festival is you miss some acts do catch others which is a shame but that's just how it works. I keep telling myself that that's more of a reason to go to Lollapalooza.

Rusko - Mr. Muscle
Wish the dubstep scene wasn't so terrible, I can get down to this shit

Die Antwoord - Wat Pomp
Only 3 song set but my far my favorite of the festival. I lost my mind!

Florence + the Machine - You've Got The Love
We were super far away for this show but her voice carries so far. So beautiful!

The Gossip - Heavy Cross
Caught this show from backstage. Beth Ditto is such an insanely cool girl. She was killing it in Jeremy Scott too.

Phoenix - Long Distance Call
There were about a million and one people at this show. Wouldn't mind seeing them in a closed venue but the french accent banter between songs was very endearing.

Hot Chip - I Feel Better
I've always wanted to see Hot Chip and it kind of pains me to say I don't remember a ton of their set. I do however remember sipping a delicious Heineken during their set. Whoops.

Vampire Weekend - Diplomat's Son
I could only barely see/hear Vampire Weekend's set from outside of the festival grounds while we were trying to meet our friend with our tickets. Disappointing but all the more reason to go to Lollapalooza to see them there!

Fever Ray - Triangle Walks
As expected, such an insane show. Her voice is incredible and it's the last set we caught on Friday night. Listening now kind of sends shivers down my spine. Missed Jay Z for her but would do it again in a heartbeat.

Miike Snow - Silvia
I wasn't a huge fan of this group before Coachella, but that's what music festivals are all about. Discovering new music. I'll figure get into them more now.

That's only the tip of the iceberg of who I saw but I thought I'd do a quick run through of my favorites. Die Antwoord totally made the festival for me!

Well, that's all for now. Thanks to my pal Chelsea Taz from Partie & Pachoulli who I stole all these photos from. Our personal photographer for the trip. I didn't end up taking one photo the entire time.
Can't wait for the next festival!!

iamamiwhoami

Has anyone else been following the mysterious videos of iamamiwhoami?? There is so much speculation about these damn videos. Personally, I can't get enough of it. So here's the lowdown. Nobody knows who these viral videos are for and there are theories about them being to promote an artists new album. The most prevalent guesses are Gaga (I don't believe it), Goldfrapp (don't believe it either) and most of all Christina Aguilera. I was really into the idea of it being Xtina when I first saw them but quickly wrote them off. Too extreme for her image. But as more and more clues are released I'm starting to believe it. Take a look for yourself:

Clue 1: This image uploaded on the Sony BMG website with the extension /Christina_Aguilera/Promo_Album.jpg

Clue 2: If you add up all of the numbers before a decimal and attach a letter to its corresponding number (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc.) you’ll notice that each video has a distinct message:

Prelude 699130082.451322 = (38.17) = (CH.AG) = CH. AG.
9.1.13.669321018 = I. A. M. CH.
9.20.19.13.5.723378 = I.T.S.M.E.C.

I'm starting to really believe this is her!! There are a ton of clues though I haven't been following very closely. If you're interested check out the Christina Aguilera tag on ONTD. Pretty interesting read if you're bored and home alone on a Saturday night like me!
